Effective date: 16 June 2026
Operator: dope.wiggill.com (“we”, “us”, “our”)
Scope: This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with:
- The DOPE Ballistics iPhone application (“App”)
- The website dope.wiggill.com (“Site”), including the support form
Summary
- We do not create or require user accounts in the App.
- Rifle profiles, engagements, and settings are stored on your device by default.
- Optional iCloud sync (Pro) stores encrypted backup data in your iCloud account via Apple.
- We may collect anonymous install and usage statistics from Apple and similar platforms to understand download numbers and app health.
- If you contact us via the support form, we use your submission only to process and respond to your request.
- We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information we do not collect in the App
The App does not require you to register, sign in, or provide your name, email address, or phone number to use core features.
We do not operate a central database of your rifle profiles, ballistic inputs, map pins, or saved engagements. That data remains on your device unless you choose export, iCloud sync, or device backup features described below.
2. Information stored on your device
The App locally stores information you enter, including for example:
- Rifle, scope, and bullet profiles
- Calculator inputs (range, environment, wind, shooting angle)
- Map pin positions and saved engagements
- App settings and preferences
- Subscription-related flags managed in conjunction with Apple’s StoreKit (entitlement state on device)
Deleting the App removes local data from your device subject to iOS behaviour and any separate iCloud copies.
3. Optional iCloud sync (Pro)
If you subscribe to DOPE Pro and enable Sync with iCloud, rifle profiles, settings, and related backup data are stored in Apple’s iCloud key-value store associated with your Apple ID.
- We do not receive direct access to your Apple ID credentials.
- Data in iCloud is subject to Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy.
- You can disable sync in the App’s Settings.
4. Data you export or import
Pro users may export backup files (e.g. JSON) to Files or other apps you choose. Importing a backup is entirely under your control. We do not receive these files unless you separately send them to us (for example, attached to a support request).
5. Permissions and on-device sensors
The App may request the following permissions. Data is used on-device and for the stated purpose unless otherwise noted.
| Permission | Purpose | Shared with us? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (When In Use) | Centre the map; fetch weather for ballistic calculations at your position or map pin | No — sent to Apple Maps / Open-Meteo as needed for those features, not to our servers |
| Bluetooth | Connect to supported Vortex rangefinders | No |
| Camera | Live background for reticle preview | No — processed on device |
You can revoke permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
6. Third-party services used by the App
The App communicates with services we do not control:
| Service | Data involved | Their role |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store / StoreKit | Purchase history, subscription status, anonymous transaction tokens | Billing and entitlement verification |
| Apple iCloud (optional) | Encrypted backup of app data you choose to sync | Cloud sync between your devices |
| Apple MapKit | Map display; geocoding as needed | Mapping |
| Open-Meteo | Latitude/longitude (and derived weather queries) | Weather for ballistic calculations |
| Vortex rangefinder (Bluetooth) | Range, angle, direction readings you initiate | Hardware input |
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We select APIs that minimise data sent where possible (e.g. coordinate-based weather lookup without sending your name or email).
7. Anonymous install and usage information
We may receive aggregated or anonymous information about App distribution and performance, such as:
- Approximate download and install counts from App Store Connect
- Crash reports and diagnostics if you opt in to share them with developers via Apple
- General device type and iOS version associated with anonymous crash logs
This information does not include your rifle data, map locations tied to your identity, or your name. We use it to understand adoption, stability, and where to improve the App.
We do not use third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking in DOPE Ballistics.
8. Website and support form
When you submit the support form on dope.wiggill.com, we collect what you provide, typically:
- Name
- Email address
- Subject and message
- Optional: app version, device model, iOS version
How we use it: Solely to process, investigate, and respond to your support request, and to maintain a record of the correspondence if needed for follow-up.
How long we keep it: For a reasonable period to resolve your issue and for internal quality purposes, unless a longer period is required by law or you ask us to delete it sooner (subject to legal obligations).
Legal basis (EEA/UK): Legitimate interest in providing customer support, and/or performance of a request you initiate.
We do not use support form data for marketing newsletters unless you separately opt in, which we do not currently offer.
9. Cookies and Site analytics (website only)
The Site may use essential cookies or similar technologies required for basic operation (for example, load balancing or form security).
If we add analytics to the Site (e.g. privacy-friendly page view counts), we will use them in aggregate form without identifying individual visitors. We will update this policy if that changes.
The App itself does not use browser cookies.
10. Children
The App and Site are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the support form, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International users
If you access the App or Site from outside our home jurisdiction, your information may be processed in countries with different data protection laws. Support emails may be stored on email or hosting providers in those countries.
For users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of personal data, and to data portability where applicable. Contact us to exercise these rights.
12. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information submitted through the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Keep your device, Apple ID, and iCloud account secure.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may be noted on the Site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
14. Contact
